Remote Control

The roclub app provides advanced remote control capabilities that allow operators to fine-tune video transmission settings to optimize performance based on network conditions and requirements. These controls are accessible through the system settings when connected to the scanner.

Video Transmission Controls

The video transmission settings can be adjusted to ensure optimal video quality and smooth streaming during sessions. These controls are located in the system settings dropdown menu at the top of the screen.

Remote Control Sliders

The remote control interface showing the Bitrate, GOP, and FPS sliders accessible through the system settings. These controls allow real-time adjustment of video transmission parameters during an active session.

Bitrate Slider

The Bitrate control allows you to adjust the data transmission rate for the video stream.

  • Purpose: Controls the amount of data transmitted per second, directly affecting video quality and bandwidth usage
  • Range: Adjustable from low to high bitrate settings
  • Impact:
    • Higher bitrate = Better video quality but requires more bandwidth
    • Lower bitrate = Reduced video quality but suitable for slower internet connections
  • Usage: Adjust based on available internet bandwidth and desired video quality
  • Recommendation: Start with a moderate setting and adjust upward if your connection can handle it, or downward if experiencing buffering or connection issues

GOP (Group of Pictures) Slider

The GOP control manages how frequently keyframes are transmitted in the video stream.

  • Purpose: Determines the interval between independent frames (keyframes) in the video compression
  • Range: Adjustable GOP size from short to long intervals
  • Impact:
    • Shorter GOP = More frequent keyframes, better error recovery, higher bandwidth usage
    • Longer GOP = Fewer keyframes, more efficient compression, lower bandwidth usage
  • Usage: Adjust based on network stability and quality requirements
  • Recommendation: Use shorter GOP for unstable connections or when image quality is critical; use longer GOP for stable connections to save bandwidth

FPS (Frames Per Second) Slider

The FPS control adjusts the frame rate of the video transmission.

  • Purpose: Controls how many frames are transmitted per second
  • Range: Adjustable from low to high frame rates
  • Impact:
    • Higher FPS = Smoother video motion but requires more bandwidth
    • Lower FPS = Less smooth motion but reduces bandwidth requirements
  • Usage: Adjust based on the type of examination and available bandwidth
  • Recommendation: Use higher FPS for procedures requiring smooth motion tracking; use lower FPS for static examinations or limited bandwidth situations

Best Practices

  • Network Assessment: Test your connection before sessions and adjust settings accordingly
  • Gradual Adjustment: Make incremental changes to settings and monitor performance
  • Session Type Consideration: Adjust settings based on whether the session requires high detail or smooth motion
  • Bandwidth Monitoring: Monitor network performance throughout the session and adjust settings if needed
  • Backup Plans: Have preset configurations ready for different network conditions

System Requirements

Remote control settings are only visible and adjustable when connected to the scanner. Changes take effect immediately and can be adjusted during an active session. Settings are not saved across sessions and will reset to default values when starting a new session.

Optimal Settings

For most standard examinations, moderate settings across all three controls provide the best balance of quality and performance. Adjust only when specific network conditions or examination requirements necessitate changes.
